Richland County Sheriff's Department Youth Services runs a program called J.U.M.P. for challenged youth in South Carolina.
Rebirth Spoken Word Youth Development Program (RSWYDP) partnered with Richland County Sheriff’s Department Youth Services, The J.U.M.P. (Juveniles Under Motivated Pressure) Start Program for challenged youth — which aims to reduce delinquent behavior among our youth. The program is designed to curb at-risk behavior by utilizing mentoring, physical training and life-skills sessions. J.U.M.P. partnered with RSWYDP to enhance the youth social-emotional development life-skills. Spoken Word is a tool that can be used to enhance the youth's social and emotional learning skills. These skills are an effective way to reduce risky behavior and the effects of adverse environmental situations. Through the use of Spoken Word the youth in J.U.M.P. will learn how to manage and express their emotions in positive and appropriate ways. By partnering with RSWYDP, J.U.M.P. is providing the youth constructive strategies to deal with their emotions. Upon completing Spoken Word Program, we hope the youth involvement in criminal activity, behavioral issues inside the classroom, home and bullying will cease.
